How to Spot a Fake Rolex.

So you want to buy a Rolex? Who wouldn't?

Rolex is one of the most sought after luxury watch brands globally, and owning one is a status symbol itself.

But with great demand also comes a world of counterfeit watches attempting to trick you into thinking they're the real deal.

Protect yourself and your wallet by learning how to spot a fake Rolex. Here are some tips to keep in mind while shopping.

By these 4 simple steps you can find that the watch you are going to buy is a real one.

  1. Serial Number

A Rolex serial number is always engraved deeply into the metal, while the fake watches have serial numbers that are simply etched with acid. The placement of the serial number is also a sign of whether it is a true Rolex or not. Look for the serial number on the 6 o'clock side where the band connects to the lug .  Rolex is a widely known status symbol, with over 700,000 of its timepieces pumped out annually. It's also one of the most counterfeited watch brands out there.

Etched Serial Numbers. Genuine Rolex watches have their serial numbers deeply engraved into the metal, whereas fakes often just have it “etched” with acid. The serial number is located behind where the band connects to the body of the watch, on the six o'clock side.

2. Motion in Seconds Hand.

There is a very smooth and flowless motion in the original where the fake one jitters a bit. Original hand is somewhere slimmer than the fake because the mechanism used by Rolex is very advance which is very difficult to replicate, fake one is always seems bigger than original reason is same.

3. Quality of Numbers in Bezels.

The numbers written in bezels are the identical difference in Original and fake. Original one is having numbers uncarved with platinum where the fake one is having just paint on it. Paint used is of high quality to last for longer period but the original one is having platinum in it which is obviously increasing the overall look of the timepiece.

Some Rolex models, particularly Rolex sports watches, include bezels that serve a specific purpose.   For instance, on the  Submariner , Deepseadweller the bezels marked to 60 minutes can be used for divers to keep track of how long they’ve been in the water for. It’s important to note that a dive bezel is typically unidirectional as a fail-safe feature. This is to prevent a diver from underestimating his immersion time. Older models of the Rolex dive watches come with aluminum bezel inserts while newer ones have Cerachrom ceramic ones. Unidirectional bezels on Rolex dive watches prevent underestimating immersion times[/caption]   Cerachrom is Rolex’s patented ceramic alloy that is not only resistant to scratching but promises to never fade from exposure to the sun. While the Deepsea and Sea-Dweller only come with black bezels, the Submariner has black, blue, and green ones available.   The Rolex GMT-Master and GMT-Master II pilot watches also come equipped with functional bezels, however, this time they are marked with 24 hours and are bi-directional. These bezels are used in conjunction with the extra 24-hour hand on the dial to indicate a second time zone—in the case of the GMT-Master II watches, the bezel can be used to keep track of three time zones.

4. Weight Matters.

As you know, Rolex is a luxury watch which means the materials used to make it will always be of the highest quality. Another way to spot a fake Rolex is to hold it in your hand. Does it feel heavy, or is it on the lighter side?

A real Rolex uses high-quality metals which means it will not be light. If the watch feels light in your hand, it was likely built with cheaper metal and is a fake.

This advice applies particularly to newer models which have bracelets made from links that are solid stainless steel. Older watches, such as the Submariner reference 16610, have Oyster bracelets with hollow links made by stamping. These hollow bracelets are much lighter than the current lineup. The 'head', the main part of the watch you look at, should still be heavy and feel sturdy.
